TECTONICS & TOLERANCE, TALLINN, ESTONIA Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, is situated where the Gulf of St. Petersburg connects to the Baltic Sea. Since its' founding, Estonia has been shaped by its' geopolitical context, being positioned between Russia to the East and Scandinavia to West, and Central Europe to the South. Throughout its history Estonia has been occupied by the major powers, most recently by Germany and the former Soviet Union. Estonia as a young republic, one that is in control of its future, for the first time in many years, must define its own national identity by re-evaluating, reconciling and understanding the past.
